A “donation bottle,” Our Blackwatch wine is named for the 42nd (Royal Highland)\u00a0 Regiment of Foot<\/strong>, also known as the Black Watch, which consisted of men recruited from the Scottish Highlands.<\/p>\n Originally, they were to patrol the highlands.\u00a0 Before the War of Austrian Succession, the Watch was formed into a unit in the regular arm and fought their first action in 1745.\u00a0 They were sent to North America in 1756 shortly before the the start of the French and Indian War.<\/p>\n At the time of Bushy Run, the 42nd had recently returned from the West Indies and a campaign against the Spanish.\u00a0 Many soldiers suffered and were weakened from the yellow fever or malaria, which they had contracted during their previous campaign.\u00a0 Despite this, they were heavily engaged in the Battle of Bushy Run and suffered more casualties than either of the other regular British units during the battle.<\/p>\n The Black Watch has a long military tradition and is still in service today as an infantry battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.<\/p>\n The winery donates a dollar from the sale of each bottle of this wine to the Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society.\u00a0 \u00a0Bushy Run Battlefield<\/strong> preserves and interprets for citizens and visitors the site of this pivotal battle fought between British and Native Americans during the conflict known as Pontiac’s War (1763-64).\u00a0 The battlefield is located in our hometown of Harrison City, PA and is known for being the turning-point of the French and Indian War (aka Pontiac’s War).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" (Semi-Sweet) (Blackberry-Isabella blend) A Semi-Sweet combination of blackberry and the Isabella grape, this is a fruity departure from a typical wine.\u00a0 It’s sweet at first from the Isabella grape with a surprisingly tart blackberry finish that lingers.\u00a0 Wow!\u00a0 \u00a0Quenching on a hot summer day.\u00a0 \u00a0Throw some ice cubes in this wine and we doubt they … Continue reading Blackwatch<\/span>
