Description

(Off-Dry, White)

Coming naturally from the fruit of the Marquis grape, this wine has sweet apple notes on the tip of the tongue with hints of grapefruit/citrus on the finish.  Light and refreshing, not overly sweet.   Excellent with frozen peaches and frozen blueberries instead of ice cubes.

Marquis Duquesne, a naval officer and French Governor General of New France, was very aggressive in enforcing French land claims in North America, by some accounts even clearing British settlers out of disputed areas.  He launched a campaign to have the  French build a defensive string of forts (above ground, where people could see them) from Erie down to the confluence of the three rivers (Ohio, Monongahela and Allegheny).   The Frenchmen who built this last fort in what is now known as “Pittsburgh”, named it  “Fort Duquesne”.   This fort was a catalyst for the wars as the British and French competed for control of the Ohio Valley.

The winery donates a dollar from the sale of each bottle of this wine to the Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society.  Bushy Run Battlefield preserves and interprets for citizens and visitors the site of this pivotal battle fought between British and Native Americans during the conflict known as Pontiac’s War (1763-64).  The battlefield is located in our hometown of Harrison City, PA.
